Maus Seminar Response 1

My closing thoughts on this seminar are that Art Speilberg wrote this book in comic form in order to disturb the audience, and hammer his point on inhumanity/violence into the brains of the audience.

Sovereignty Free Write

1. I noticed that my thinking changed when discussing terrorists, and the harboring of them. Initially I thought that it was the countries write to harbor terrorists, but after realizing (reminding myself) that terrorists are ideological, and that the country harboring them might be holding the same ideology, or even the terrorism highly, as well as the fact that terrorists are a national security threat really swung my views.

The congo has been in a state of war for 15 years after the rwandan genocide involving the hutus and tootsies. This article summarizes the fact that the U.N atrocities/human rights report, recently released in september has shown that over 21 militant groups have implemented rape, and murder of innocent civilians into their tactics, and that the war is no way slowing down.

This article is a summary of the events leading up to the state that the congo is in  now, as well as a brief commentary on the recent U.N human rights report. The article states that the congo, being rich in natural resources, and humans has been foughtover and abused by various rebel or government militant groups since the days of king leopold. Rebels and corporations that gain control of the resources are exporting them and mining them with little benefit to the congolese people, and at the cost of what the U.N says are genocidally proportional death tolls.
